Quality

Since 1999, COMETAL has operated a system of quality and more recently for environmental management based on the requirements of the UNE-EN ISO 9001:2015 and UNE-EN ISO 14001:2015 standards for:

Trading, representation, warehousing and distribution of products and raw materials for the metals, steel and foundry industry.

The Quality and Environmental Management system is aimed at meeting the needs of COMETAL’s clients and the product’s legal and regulatory requirements, as well as those necessary to ensure service effectiveness and the environment preservation.

COMETAL’s policy on quality and environment is to provide products and services that meet the needs of our clients without making commitments that could affect the quality of these products and services or the environment.

Our working motto has always been: Service as a Principle, Quality as a Norm

REACH, CLP and other Regulatory Requirements

The EU has made significant changes to its legal requirements on hazardous substances in recent years. It has enacted several regulations, which are intended to protect human health and the environment, harmonizing the rules and criteria for the classification and labelling within its jurisdiction of substances, mixtures and certain articles.

Regulations such as the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) and on the classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures (CLP), represent an ambitious and advanced legislative framework, which is also complex. They have a number of requirements which, for COMETAL with the breadth and variety of its product portfolio, require a concerted effort to be met.

COMETAL complies with all obligations arising from this new and complex legislative framework and has cooperated on several occasions with customers and suppliers, offering advice to help them meet their respective commitments.

The concept of sustainable development - making the relentless technological development of today’s consumer society compatible with the preservation of the nature that surrounds us - is now widely accepted by the developed world. Waste recycling, which takes a major problem and turns it into a source of valuable raw materials, is one of the radical axes on which the European Union’s environmental policy rests - the three Rs policy: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. The use of scrap in metallurgy is possibly one of the oldest and most effective means of recycling. In Spain, for instance, following the industrial reconversion of the steel industry in the eighties, the Spanish metalwork industry is now firmly committed to the production of electric furnace steel using ferrous scrap as raw material.
