AIRBUS WILL USE NiCd BATTERIES IN ITS NEW A 350 27/02/2013

After the heating issues in lithium ion batteries incorporated to the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Airbus will use more traditional Nickel Cadmium batteries in its new A 350.

After the problems encountered in the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner recently occurred that led, among other measures, to the ban by the European Aviation Safety Agency of the flights scheduled by such devices this past January and which are attributed to heating problems in Lithium ion batteries installed in this type of aircraft, the European consortium Airbus has decided to change the lithium ion batteries that would incorporate its new long-range model A350. Company sources have said that although in the first tests it will continue using Lithium batteries yet, for commercial flights only nickel-cadmium batteries will be employed. COMETAL provides recycling services for both types of batteries in facilities located in Germany which are based on state of the art and efficient reclaiming technologies.
